Branch Basics

Cleaning products have transformed from a simple rag, water and soapberries 100+ year ago to a multi-million dollar industry-all capitalizing on the idea that squeaky clean is only attainable through a specific product. Cleaning products have had a strangely large impact on my life- my Mom cleaned houses when I was growing up and my Dad’s illness stemmed from an environmental chemical exposure.
As a child, I would often “help” my Mom clean using products like Windex and Pledge and when Magic Erasers came along-it was the miracle of cleaning products. Neither of us wore masks, we did wear gloves but the safety of these products with prolonged exposure/use were never a thought. The silver lining of these experiences were that I learned a lifelong skill of how to clean and maintain a home and even took over some clients I was home from college. I remember being repulsed when a client would ask us to use a granite cleaner that smelled so strong I would get a headache on the way home. Little did we know, what we know now.

My Dad was exposed to high levels of roundup when I was in middle school. This exposure launched his kidney and liver failure and through careful medical management and progressive doctors, he was able to live a relatively normal life for many years. For that we are blessed. During the peak of my Dad’s illness we were constantly at hospitals/doctor’s offices for long stretches of time. 56 consecutive days living in the ICU of a small hospital in Florida was the record-and is one of the reminders why we invest in our health now. Our family went into we what called “hospital protocol” -using only paper towels, disinfectant daily, outdoor coats/gloves stayed at the door and were aired out before going into a closet, vacuuming daily and shoes off at the door. It sounds like a lot- but at the time it was something that we could control and support the bubble of our family unit immune system for my Dad.

In 2019, I began looking more into cleaning products for a healthy home- that would still be in line with what the doctors were recommending (clorox, lysol wipes etc). I found Branch Basics through a wellness practitioner and do what I always do- go zero to sixty on research. I listened to the Wellness Mama Podcast featuring Branch Basics founder -Marilee Nelson. Her story resonated with me so much- her life was drastically impacted by chemical exposure and has devoted her time to helping others -ultimately creating Branch Basics. When my Mom wasn’t convinced, I turned the podcast on and the lights came on for her. I ordered my first premium starter kit and got to work cleaning. It’s been a staple ever since.

Branch Basics is a non toxic cleaning solution that uses one concentrate to mix with water to remove germs. The premium starter kit includes bottles for: all purpose, bathroom, glass, laundry, hand soap and the amazing oxygen-boost. Each bottle you make has a different amount of concentrate for ideal cleanliness. They just launched a gel hand soap and recently debuted dishwasher tabs that are plastic free! It doesn’t have any fragrance or scent and is safe enough for daily handwashing and even washing produce! I’ve introduced Branch Basics to countless family and friends and the best part is it truly works! It degreases better than any conventional degreaser I’ve ever used! My before and after photos aren’t glamorous but that’s real life- especially upper cabinet dust and oven cleaning. Support your overall health and lung health by switching to Branch Basics!
